Something Important to Me by Miranda Doller

If you know me or ever talk to me, you would hear me mention my dogs every five minutes. I would probably show you the same pictures of them that I've shown multiple times already and ask you if they look cute. If you say that you've seen "cuter dogs", I'll probably be mad at you for a minute and argue that my dogs are, in fact, the cutest doggies in the world. Nevertheless, Willie and Ricky hold a very special place in my heart.
It's been a roller coaster of a ride with these rascals and it's only been 3 and a half years! My family first adopted Willie from a breeder down in Toms River, he was the runt and wasn't fit to be a show dog. On the other hand, Ricky, Willie's brother, was on his way down to Florida with Carol. She was going to train him to become a show dog.
Willie came home with us and 5 months later we got a phone call from the breeder, Mary-Anne, explaining that Ricky had a health issue that made him unfit to become the show dog he was meant to be. She offered him to us and immediately we said yes, and so he became part of our family.
The reunion between the two brothers was extremely heartwarming and I'm glad they get will spend the rest of their lives together, side by side. Every morning, Ricky and Willie wake me up. Ricky uses the miniature stairs on my bedside to reach me. Willie's legs are a little shorter and the stairs are difficult for him to use, and so he waits until I get to the kitchen to greet me. Although Willie is the smallest of the two, he is definitely not scared to start a fight when it comes to playing with his precious toys. Ricky, on the other hand, does not really understand how to fetch a ball. I throw a toy and he stares at it while Willie goes full-on monster-dog to try to get it before anyone. I'm assuming he never got to play when he was in Florida because all he was doing was training for the dog shows. To me, Willie and Ricky are the best companions you could ever ask for. I'm so thankful and happy that I have them in my life.
