Something Important to Me by Sarah McGovern

One of the most important things in my life is volleyball. This sport has allowed me to meet and become friends with so many amazing people that I probably wouldn't have gotten to know otherwise. I didn't start playing until two years ago, when I first decided I wanted to play in high school, but as soon as I started playing I fell in love with everything about it.
I knew I was terrible when I decided I wanted to play for the school (which was sometime in the middle of eighth grade), so I tried out for a club and made a local team and I started to actually know what I was doing. Come summer I was still awful but good enough to make the freshman team. That season I became friends with a lot of people I never really talked to before and it helped me become more social and not as shy. After the season was over I still wanted to play so I tried out for another local team and played through the winter and spring. Summer came again and I made the JV team and we had a pretty great season (not as much drama as freshman year hah). In November I tried out for the same club but this time I made a regional team, which is a lot more competitive than the local team and I love it so much. We've had two tournaments so far, one where we won and the other we got second place.
I've worked extremely hard in the past two years to go from not knowing anything about volleyball at all to being able to play for a pretty competitive club (not to flex). I'm proud of how far I've gotten and it has definitely changed my life to have something I'm so passionate about and want to succeed in.
Our first tournament where we made it to the finals (and lost lol)
