Please Stop Doing This By: Noah Fischer

Alright before any of you come for me in the comments, this is my one blog post where I'm going to talk about trans topics, because I'm getting really tired of ranting to myself alone in my room, so I'm going to rant about it here, but then I'm done for the rest of the year. Don't read it if you don't want to or get easily offended. Also there will be stuff like medical terms so it might be a little bit explicit.

First lets go over why gender is not a social construct. In 1964, twin boys named Bruce and Brandon Reimer were born. Around six months old, they both got STIs and were taken to get circumcisions to correct it. Brandon was fine, but Bruce's got botched, so a psychiatrist, John Money, decided he was going to try and prove that gender could be changed and influenced (basically that it's a social construct), so Bruce was given sexual reassignment surgery, his name was changed to Brenda and he was raised as a girl. From a very young age, he wanted to play with the boys toys and wear boys clothes, even though he had been raised female and told he was female his whole life. His parents put him on hormone blockers and eventually estrogen, and as he went through female puberty got gender dysphoria (which is when your gender doesn't match your biological sex, causing a disconnect between your brain and body). When they were around 15 their parents told both of them about the study, and Brenda began his detransition back into his birth sex, choosing the name David. Both of the twins ended up committing suicide because of the experiment. Because David's parents were not able to raise him female without issue, and he had transition back into male proves that gender isn't a social construct. David had a gender that was innate, making him uncomfortable having a female body and being seen as female, even though he was told that his whole life and raised as such.

There is also science backing the existence of male and female brains and supporting that you have a biological gender separate from your sex. There are different chemicals and hormone you are exposed to in development that create differing structures and different hormone levels in your brain, giving you either a male or female brain. For 99% of people, it is the same as your biological sex (chromosomes), but for some people it is the opposite, hence transgender people existing. Basically trans people are trans because they are born with the brain opposite of their sex, causing a disconnect between brain and body, or dysphoria.

Now to get into my actual point. You need gender dysphoria to be transgender. If you don't have dysphoria, your brain aligns with your birth sex, meaning you are simply choosing to be the other gender. If you don't have dysphoria there is literally no reason you would be transgender. Please stop telling people you don't need dysphoria to be trans. Please stop telling gender nonconforming (GNC) people that they are transgender simply because they don't fit into the normal description of their gender. You are allowed to be a feminine man or a masculine woman. The trans community is overrun by people wanting to feel like a special snowflake saying that they're trans even though they don't have dysphoria. Being trans is legitimately the worst part of my life and I would give anything to change it, and I can't even turn to the community because it's full of people who are undermining the actual struggle that real trans people go through. They make us look like a joke. Transphobia will always be the biggest problem to trans people, but these people making up stupid things that don't exist add more fuel to the transphobia fire, and are the reason right wing conservatives don't believe we actually exist. People who describe body dysmorphia as if it were dysphoria (two completely separate things) are the reason my parents are unsupportive. People who preach that dysphoria isn't needed and medically transitioning isn't really necessary for trans people are the reason dysphoria (a mental disorder as described by the world health organization and the DSM-5) is being demedicalized, ruining my future prospects of medically transitioning. Transtrenders (people faking being trans for attention, stupid name, I know) are the cause of so so so many problems. So please stop saying that you can be trans without dysphoria, which you can't, and stop letting those people be the voice of the trans community, instead of actual trans people. Stop telling GNC people they need to transition and allowing them to not only give themselves backwards dysphoria (when you're comfortable in your birth sex, and transition to the other, giving yourself dysphoria) but also taking resources away from a trans person who actually needs it. I know this seems really ranty and unnecessary but it genuinely makes me mad because it not only hurts me, but so many other people.

(that's him ^)
he's a trans youtuber who also speaks on this, he's pretty funny as well. He can be a little mean though, so be wary of that

Storm Ryan and Miss London are also good trans sources

Ok I'm done, if I offended you, I'm not really sorry because this is just science and facts, and there was fair warning at the beginning. Please don't try and tell me I make being trans the forefront of my existence, I hate it and would give literally anything to be cisgender, uwu.

  2. This is very interesting - thank you for trusting us with a personal topic. I have never heard of the Reimer twins, but how sad for them and their family. I hope this post helps more students have a better understanding of this topic.
