Summer-y YA Romances to Help you get Over the Start of School By Chloe Maher

1. The Summer I turned Pretty
by Jenny Han
The Summer I turned Pretty by Jenny Han is absolutely perfect for fans of To all the Boys I've Loved Before! It chronicles the summer of Belly, and her summer friends Jeremiah, and Conrad, boys she's known her entire life. Every summer she leaves for the shore to spend time with the family of her mother's childhood friend, Susannah. But this summer, things are changing. Belly has always harbored a huge crush on Conrad, the oldest of the three and this summer it just seems like things might happen. This story is full of sweet moments and is a lovely childhood love story.

2. To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Though not technically a summer-y book the movie did come out over the summer and it's absolutely perfect to distract you from the woes of school. Though not a carbon copy of the movie, it's wonderful if you can't get get enough of Peter Kavinsky, Lara Jean, and her wonderfully wacky family and friends. The romance portion just feels like such a summer thing.

`3. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, By Anne Brashares
A cult favorite, this novel depicts the summers of a tight knit group of friends, Lena, Carmen, Tibby, and Bridget all experiencing different hardships and delights in a summer they'll never ever forget. It's  chock full of romance, sadness, and bittersweet moments for each of the teen girls as they grow up during the summer of sophomore year and stay bonded by passing along a magical pair of jeans.

4. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, By Morgan Matson
Amy Curry has been tasked with transporting her family's car all the way from California to Connecticut. The only issue is, her father has just passed on in a car accident! Luckily, a family friend, Roger, is there to help her on her cross country road trip. This book includes receipts, travel journal entries, and little facts about the places they visit at the start of each chapter that make the characters feel all the more real. It's a sweet summer romance, and it'll definitely give you the urge to take a cross country road trip of your own!

5. Anna and the French Kiss, By Stephanie Perkins
I adore this novel. Though it doesn't take place in summer, it'll immerse you in the character's school dreamy school life. It has the feel of a summer romance. Anna's just about to start her senior year when her dad makes the decision to send her to a boarding school all the way in Paris! Anna's devastated until she meets Etienne St. Clair, the absolute perfect boy, who, as luck would have it, attends her boarding school in Paris. Tragically, Etienne is taken! Anna herself just might be too by a boy back home...This book explores Etienne and Anna's budding relationship in the beautiful streets of Paris throughout the school year.

6. The Fill-in Boyfriend, By Kaisie West
This one is pure high school drama, with rivalries and little white lies. Just like Anna and the French Kiss, it also has a summer-y flair to it. It's a tad reminiscent of gossip girl minus the upper east side. The main character, Gia Montgomery, is so concerned with what her friends think of her and so determined to prove herself to her frenemy, that she can't live in the moment and lives her life based on what her friends think of her. This ends up being terrible for the main character as due to this, her boyfriend, Bradley, breaks up with her in the middle of the parking lot right before the school dance! Luckily her fill-in boyfriend comes to the rescue and saves her from her friends' ridicule.

8. I See London, I See France, By Sarah Mlynowski
Just like Amy and Roger's epic detour, it just might make you want to go on your own adventure! It's about the summer of Sydney and her best friend since childhood, Leela. They've been talking about this trip for years and right before sophomore year of college, they finally decide to go. Unfortunately, trouble ensues, when Leela's cheating ex-boyfriend, Matt, shows up with a cute, (in Sydney's opinion), friend on the exact same plane as them! To make matters worse, Sydney can't stop worrying about her family back home. It's a super quick read and is perfect for when you just need a good laugh or if you're in the mood for something sweet and lighthearted.
