On Halloween Night by Maddie DiMarco

On Halloween Night

The night is filled with something strange
Filling the place where the song bird sang
There is no song echoing tonight
All creatures have fled this blight

They run from the chill
But imagine, if you will
That there is something else coming out to play
Here to haunt the cold bitter days

They stalk along, presence like a snare
A cold feeling seeping into the air
Leaving withering trees in their wake
And the souls of those they had previously come to take

Ghosts of the past have returned for a moment
Creatures of elsewhere have come for their enjoyment
The veil between worlds is thin tonight
And perhaps why we view this day with such fright

Now that you’ve read my warning song
You know what I’ve known all along
That there are things ought to be seen
If you’re looking them this Halloween
