The Port Arthur Massacre is the largest mass shooting in Australian history. After the massacre some of the strictest gun laws in the world were placed in Australia. As always, internet warriors took the stance that it was an inside job. Pauline Hanson, leader of the One Nation Party (a small conservative political party,) gave some credibility to these findings. Al Jazeera, a media outlet, recorded Pauline Hanson questioning the massacre. In the recording she quoted another MP, saying "it will take a massacre in Tasmania to change gun laws." She took this quote from a liberal MP (Australian version of a Senator) and claimed that the shooting was a hoax used in order to change gun laws in Australia. To further provide evidence for her claim, she said "those were precision shots." She didn't go into detail about how the shooting was a hoax but she did say that she knew a lot about the topic because she said, "I read a book, about this whole Port Arthur thing." Her statement saying those were precision shots implies that the massacre was an inside job by a professional or trained killer. Later when asked about the book by daily mail UK, all she could recall about the book was that it was, "a blue book." It is no surprise that her party stands to repeal gun laws in Australia.

Another interesting recording from the documentary was that of high ranking members of the One Nation Party meeting with gun lobbyists from the NRA. Now why would a member of the American NRA be in Australia? It turns out members of the One Nation Party have been asking for and receiving donations from the NRA. This is a part of a plan for gun law repeals in Australia giving the NRA a better media outlook in the US. The NRA and other gun lobbying groups have been funding the One Nation Party in hopes that there beliefs will spread to many of the Australian people and perhaps there will be more sympathy for guns.
Despite the increase in gun laws, the number of guns in Australia has gone up by 400,000. This is because over $1.7 million have been donated to parties that seek to water down gun control in Australia. This is corruptness at its peak. Politicians will accept money from NRA style gun lobbies to pay for their campaigns. This is not an isolated occurrence. In the US pretty much everyone in politics goes through the same systems. This is a bigger issue, but it is seen clearly through this situation. Corruption isn't some devil's evil, it is a tool necessary to obtain and hold power.
