Breaking Records At The Speed Of Light - By Jon Poret

Recently, the world record for the fastest 3x3 Rubik's Cube solve in a competition has been broken by Yusheng Du with a time of 3.47. The previous record, 4.22 seconds, was set by Feliks Zemdegs, a 23 year old from Australia.

Feliks' 4.22 solve
The new record was set at the Wuhu open 2018 competition in Wuhu, china. The only footage that exists of the record being set is from a security camera, which captured the solve, and the reaction.

The solve was analysed by youtuber Lazer0Monkey, who broke down what Yusheng Du did in his solve that allowed him to get the world record.

Lazer0Monkey's breakdown
This new record dropped the time for the 3x3 world record by almost a full second, something that hasn't been seen in the cubing scene since Feliks started setting world records. When he started setting records, he dropped the world record single time from about 7 seconds to around 5.5 seconds.

It will be interesting to see how the cubing world, especially the competitive scene, changes from this new record, and when the record will be broken again, which will probably not be for a long time.
