I know it may not seem important to most of you, but yes, another running record has been broken. This time it was the indoor 1600 meter record. Right now, the outdoor 1600 meter record is 3:43:13, set by Hicham El Guerrouj. That time is insane. The indoor 1600 meter record is now 3:47:01. You may be wondering why an indoor record is slower than an outdoor record. This is due to the amount of curves. The more often a person has to go on a curve, the more often they have to slow down. This obviously makes their time slower. The world record holder is now Yomif Kejelcha. This man is only 21 years old, pretty young in terms of setting world records. Now, I know this may not seem that insane to most of you, but as a runner, it is absolutely mind-boggling. He is running over 15 miles an hour. I can run a mile in just under 6 minutes, which is pretty good for my age and level but the idea that there are people out there running over two minutes faster than me is incredible. I will keep following running records for however long I live because as time progresses, we keep having better and better runners coming to take their predecessor's position as a world record holder. Right now, we have a 16 year old female running 4:30 miles and sub-17 minute 5k's in the world. This girl could go on to create so many more records and could become a multiple event world-record holder. Right now, the running world is crazy and I am just trying to keep up. -Nuala Hynes
