Something Important To Me~ By Julia McEllen

As I opened my computer to write this blog, it didn't take me long to know what I was going to write about. There are so many things in life to be thankful for and to feel are important aspects of my life, but by far the most important thing in my life is my mom. I know this may seem like something conventional to write about, but there is nothing conventional about my relationship with my mom. My mom is by far the most outstanding person I have ever met. She is unlike any other person, let alone mom, that I know. Honestly, my mom is my best friend.

For as long as I can remember, my mom has been there for me. Whenever I feel sad, happy, anxious, stressed, excited (you name it), I go to my mom for advice. I tell my mom everything. Right when I get home from school, we sit down and talk about our days. She always gives me the best advice, and I don't know what I would do without her by my side.
I always remember to show my mom gratitude for everything she does for me, and I have never once taken our relationship for granted. Being a teenage girl, it's no doubt that I have heard the mother-daughter cliche that teenage girls and mothers are expected to clash. But, I truly don't understand this. Why should we be expected to butt heads with our mothers just because we are teenagers? If anything, becoming closer to my mom every day has only helped me grow as a person. I feel truly grateful to have the close relationship I do with my mom because there are so many people who just don't have that.

I have never been one to share my whole life with people, and even people I am close with don't know everything about me. But almost everybody knows that I am very close with my mom. She truly has shaped me into the person I am today. My mom is the most generous, loving, strong, thoughtful person I have ever met.
So, reflecting on my life and making a mental list of all the important things in my life, my mom surpasses all of them. She is what makes my life the way it is, and there has never been a day where she hasn't been the amazing mom she is, and the best friend I will always love.
