Siren Song by: Kaela Burke

Siren Song

By: Kaela Burke

Shrill piercing cries of desperation reach my ears like wind chimes on a brisk autumn day. Blood-curdling screams of famished hunger, of carnivorous intent, only ever heard as a bubbling laugh, the soft plucking of a harp. You wicked, treacherous thief. Deceitful witch. You siren, intoxicating poison filling my ears with every second I spend hurtling towards you at breakneck speed, knowing full-well I won't survive this fall from grace. But somehow I find myself wanting more, wrecking myself without a shred of doubt in my mind. You stole something, and I would throw myself onto the shards of jagged rock on your shore to retrieve it. My heart, the vile, fragile thing. Can you hear it as it shatters in your fist? Or can you too only hear the soft melody playing on loop in my head, as the world around me fades to blissful nothing.
